Event Details

Root cause is the underlying reason for a behavior or condition.  In dementia care, understanding the root cause helps address the real needs of individuals with dementia.  Join Mary Anne Oglesby-Sutherly as she gives you the techniques to get to the root cause in this relationship-based approach to dementia.

Mary Anne Oglesby-Sutherly is the founder/Executive Director of Veranda Ministries.  She is a certified dementia trainer, coach, and consultant with the Teepa Snow's "Positive Approach to Care."

With nearly 20 years of experience in the senior care industry, Mary Anne's experience in activity programs at an assisted living facility and at a day program, as well as coordinating a care provider service, have helped establish the foundation for a mission in advocating for aging adults.  Her compassion, love, and concern for the well-being of the senior adult population led to the creation of Veranda Ministries and the launch of The Veranda, a faith-based nonprofit day respite program located in Gallatin, TN.  The Veranda is a Positive Approach to Care Designated Organization, the only such organization in Tennessee.

Mary Anne is also certified in Alzheimer's care by both the Alzheimer's Association and the Alzheimer's Federation of America.  She is a member of the Gallatin Mayor's Senior Council, serves as vice president of legislative affairs for the Tennessee Association of Adult Day Services (TAADS), and is a member of the Adult Day Services Advisory Committee for the Tennessee Department of Human Services.
