Event Details

Join us for a special Black History Month program inspired by The Patchwork Path: A Quilt Map to Freedom by Bettye Stroud. This poignant story tells of a young girl and her father who escape slavery using the secret messages stitched into quilt patterns.

We will begin with a reading of the book and a brief discussion about the role of quilts in the Underground Railroad. Then, families will create their own quilt squares using fabric scraps, drawing inspiration from historical quilt patterns and their meanings. Participants will have the option to sew their designs or use Mod Podge to assemble them.

This program addresses historical themes that may be challenging for younger children. We encourage families to decide together if this program is right for them.
