Event Details

Charles Dickens is considered by many to be the greatest Victorian novelist. He created some of literature's best known fictional characters and enjoyed unprecedented popularity in his lifetime. In the latter part of his career, Dickens embarked on tours, where he would give dramatic readings of his works, including A Christmas Carol. This one man production, starring Colonel L. Henry Dowell, is produced in that same spirit.

Humbug! A One Man Christmas Carol is the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, a mean old man who hates everything and everybody. But of all the things he hates, he hates Christmas time the most. Then, one Christmas Eve, Mr. Scrooge is visited by some lively spirits who teach him the true meaning of Christmas. It's holiday fun for the whole family!

Colonel L. Henry Dowell is the founder of the The Gusto Theatre Company, a group dedicated to educational theatre and the performing of new works, as well as the classics. He is a graduate of Morehead State University and attended the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York. He is an actor, director, and playwright, with numerous credits spanning 35 years in the theatre. He is currently touring as part of the Chautauqua Program with Kentucky Humanities as Colonel Harland Sanders and Dr. Ephraim McDowell.
