Combine the countless benefits of reading aloud with hands-on learning to help your family connect each week with quality books from the library collection on a variety of captivating topics to enhance your homeschool portfolio. Following the selected read-alouds, families will enjoy a craft or activity related to the day’s topic.
Our sessions and activities are suited most toward homeschooling families with children between the ages of 6-12. Because care-givers stay with and help direct students during all parts of the program, younger and older siblings are welcome to join in on the adventure.
This week’s topic: Blindness Awareness and White Cane Safety – Homeschool Adventures is partnering with Rick Boggess from SAVI (Support Alliance of the Visually Impaired) and Pepsi the guide dog to raise our awareness of life with visual impairment and to improve safety and support for our blind and visually impaired friends and neighbors!
Mr. Boggess has been completely blind his entire life and has been an extremely involved member of the Owensboro community since he began teaching for Owensboro Public Schools in 1978. He plans to share some of his experiences and knowledge with us. Students will be able to take home a card with their name spelled in braille, AND kids will have a chance to meet Pepsi, the guide dog with her handler, Cheryl Lott. Special Note: When Pepsi the Guide Dog is wearing her harness, she is working. Patrons should not approach Pepsi until invited to do so by her handler.
